Training that adapts to your roster.

Generic plans assume you sleep at night and train at 6am. Strongshift is a training plan for shift workers — nurses, doctors, FIFO and more — that rebuilds itself around your actual roster.

Every training app assumes Monday to Friday. You work a rotating roster, sleep when you can, and your "week" changes every fortnight. Your training plan should keep up — not fall apart.

Features

Your roster is the input.
Your plan is the output.

Enter your shifts once — or sync your roster — and Strongshift does the periodisation for you.

Roster-first planning

Days, nights, lates, 4-on-4-off, FIFO swings. Your plan is built around the shifts you actually work, not an idealised week.

Auto-reshuffle

Picked up an extra shift? Roster changed mid-week? The plan rebuilds itself in seconds — key sessions land on your best days.

Sleep-aware intensity

Night blocks get recovery work, not max-effort intervals. The engine knows a post-nights body isn't ready for PRs.

Strength + running hybrid

Progressive lifting and structured running in one plan — programmed together so they don't cannibalise each other.

Shift-length sessions

25-minute pre-night primers. 35-minute post-shift lifts. Full sessions saved for days off. Every workout fits the day it's on.

Streaks that protect themselves

Worked three nights straight and missed a session? That day doesn't break your streak — the app knows the difference between skipping and sleeping.

Coach

A coach that actually reads your training.

Not a chatbot, not a generic tip generator — a rules engine that reads your real sessions, effort, pace and roster, and tells you exactly what's working and what needs attention.

  • Reads your actual data. Completed sessions, RPE, pace trends, streaks — not boilerplate advice.
  • Knows your roster. It's the difference between "you missed a session" and "you worked three nights."
  • Tells you the next lever to pull. Not just what you did — what to focus on to keep the score moving.

Why it's different

Built for shift work. Not adapted for it.

"I've done years of nights while training for strength and running goals. Every app I tried gave me a plan built for someone with weekends. So I'm building the one that understands a roster."

FAQ

Questions, answered.

When does Strongshift launch?

Q4 2026. Waitlist members get first access to the beta, plus the founding member discount at launch.

Which roster patterns does it handle?

All of them — straight days, permanent nights, rotating rosters, 4-on-4-off, FIFO swings, on-call blocks. If you can enter it, the engine can program around it.

What happens when my roster changes mid-week?

Update your shifts and the week rebuilds instantly. Key sessions move to your best recovery windows; nothing heavy lands after a run of nights.

Do I need a gym?

No. Choose a gym, home-equipment or bodyweight track when you set up. Hospital gym at 3am counts too.

Will it sync with my smartwatch?

Smartwatch sync is on the roadmap — Apple Watch, Garmin and Fitbit support is coming so your runs and lifts log automatically instead of manual entry.

Who is building this?

A critical care doctor in Brisbane who has spent years training for strength and running goals around a hospital roster — and got tired of apps that assume weekends exist.

What does it cost?

$14.99/month or $99/year (AUD), both with a 14-day free trial. Waitlist members get 30% off their first year.

How do you stay fit working night shifts?

Consistency beats intensity. Match your hardest sessions to your best-recovered days, protect sleep around night blocks instead of squeezing in a workout beforehand, and keep intensity low in the 24–48 hours after a run of nights. That's the logic Strongshift automates for you.

Can you build muscle working night shifts?

Yes — sleep and recovery matter more than the exact time you train. The key is not stacking heavy sessions right before or after a night shift when you're running on a sleep deficit. A roster-aware plan spaces key lifts around your actual recovery windows, not a fixed weekly split.

What's the best time to work out after a night shift?

There's no universal answer — it depends on how many nights you've just worked and how you slept. Generally: light movement or a short easy session works better than a heavy lift straight off a night shift, with harder training saved for your first well-slept day off.
